Labs, Santarsiero Announce $350,000 for Plumstead Township Community Projects

HARRISBURG – Rep. Shelby Labs (R-Bucks) and Sen. Steve Santarsiero (D-Bucks) today announced $350,000 in Local Share Account (LSA) grants for two projects serving the Plumstead Township community.

The awards include $200,000 for the Plumsteadville Volunteer Fire Company to purchase new radios for its firefighters. The department’s existing radios are no longer supported by the manufacturer and lack some capabilities available in newer equipment. The new radios will provide improved signal reception, noise cancellation, GPS location tracking and battery life, while improving integration with police, EMS and county communications.

An additional $150,000 was awarded to the Bucks County Industrial Development Authority, on behalf of the Central Bucks Athletic Association, to replace three basketball courts in Plumstead Township. The existing courts have deteriorated significantly and are no longer safe for play. The project will include removal of the existing surface, drainage and site improvements, new blacktop, court markings, fencing and gates. Approximately 1,200 children use the courts during a typical summer.

“Our firefighters need dependable communications equipment when they answer an emergency call, and our young people deserve safe places to play and spend time outdoors,” said Labs. “This grant funding addresses two much-needed upgrades to services for the residents of Plumstead Township and the surrounding community.”

“These basketball courts give hundreds of local kids a place to play, stay active and build friendships every summer,” said Santarsiero. “After years of use, this investment will give the community a new, durable place to play. Providing safe, accessible places for young people to be active is an important part of building a healthier community, and I’m proud to support a project that will benefit local families for years to come.”

The LSA program distributes gaming revenue to economic development projects. LSA funds are distributed by the Commonwealth Financing Authority, an independent agency of the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development which administers the commonwealth’s economic stimulus packages.
